Hickling
First School is a traditional Victorian village school which was built
in 1864. It was a village primary school until 1980, when it became a
first school for children aged four to eight years old, i.e. from the
reception year until the end of year 3. It serves the parishes of Hickling
and Sea Palling with Waxham. After year 3 the children transfer to Stalham
Middle School. |
|
The
main building consists of a hall and large Reception and year 1 room.
An extension houses the school office with a recent addition in 2004 of
a staffroom and head teacher's office. The year 2 and 3 children are taught
in a mobile which will be replaced by a permanent classroom in the near
future. |
In addition to the tarmacked playground in front of the main building,
the younger children also have the use of an enclosed outside play area,
while behind the school there is a large field with a newly planted tree-walk,
spiral willow maze and tunnel for the children to explore. The wild-life
garden is used as a learning resource throughout the year. |
|
A
broad, rich education based on the National Curriculum is offered to the
children. After-school clubs include a sports club and an arts club for
music and art and craft. All year 3 children learn to play the recorder
and the older children sing in the Cromer Music Festival. |
