VILLAGE
HALL NEWS SHEET August 2011
Welcome to the latest on the new village hall. Lots of things are going on and by the time you get this, lots more will have happened.
Children’s Play Area and Landscaping
The play area has been reopened for use, having been relocated for the new hall. 48 volunteers worked on the 20 August to spread the wood chips and lay the turf and we now await the arrival of some new pieces of play equipment.
We were especially pleased to welcome Peter Brown, who originally designed the hall, which is going up very quickly now. Thanks also, to John Tallowin for lending and David Beales for driving, the digger which helped enormously.
Watch this apace for another community event to plant the hedging round the play area and a number of trees on the site.
Construction
Onto the building itself. The project is on track and on budget and is due for completion at the end of November.
At the time of writing, the brick-work is at least 3m high all round, the structural steelwork is in place and the sub floor is complete. The builders are about to place the orders for the roof tiles, solar panels and ground source heat pump and the hall will be weather tight in September.
BBQ on the Building Site
There will be another site visit at 6pm on Tuesday, 30th August so that we can see the progress being made and trustees will be on hand to take questions. There will also be a barbeque….all welcome!

Trustees
As promised, there will be changes to the governance of the Charity, with nominations and elections for some posts in October. We have drafted the initial details of this and once we have legal clearance, will need to get both Charity Commission and Norfolk Rural Community Council approval.
We will be contacting key stakeholders regarding the nomination process in due course.
The Road to the Hall
You will not have missed that the hall and the two new houses will be accessed via a private road off Mallard Way.
We have been asked to suggest an official street name for this and we feel it should be named after some-one who has done something special for the village or this project. Our proposals are as follows:
Brown’s Loke – after Peter Brown, the architect who designed the new Village Hall
Edgell Lane – after Laura Edgell, who donated the money for the original hall in Stubb Road
Nudd’s Loke – after Billy Nudd, the man whose actions saved the village from a serious flood
Tate Close — after Don Tate who kindly donated £25000 towards the new Village Hall
Simply email or post your choice to Shirley Sainsbury (see below) or place it in the suggestion box at the Methodist Chapel.
Communications
We have a new member of our team who is going to lead on Communications, Chris Watkins, who brings a wealth of journalistic experience to the project. However he is holiday so will write the next newsletter insert!
