CHAIRMAN'S REPORT SEPTEMBER 2006

A Parish Councillor vacancy has occurred with the departure of Peter Sparks to France, if anyone is interested in being a councillor, please contact me on 598410 or Shirley on 598882 for an informal chat about what is involved, or write/fax/e-mail in with a brief description of your interests and what you could contribute to the role
We would like to hear from people who are interested in the future of the village and who would be prepared to spend a few hours a month for the benefit of the village

An allotment is available for rent from March 2007 in the Hickling area. This is a grassed area of one acre, with the resulting hay being used for horses. The rent is £80 per annum.
If anyone is interested, please contact me on 598410 or Shirley on 598882

The Village Plan presentations were attended by 60-70 people who were very impressed with the quality and clarity of the slide show that Peter Berrie had produced. Another presentation will be held at a later date We would like to thank the Hickling Local History Group who made available their equipment and, in return, received a print-out and CD of the presentation for their archives.
A big thank you to all those who have volunteered in some way.
The Clerk will be contacting you shortly.

The Parish Council approached Norfolk County Council about speeding traffic in Hickling and received a reply explaining about the criteria for speed limits. Unfortunately, the roads do not meet the criteria for changing any speed limit in the village.
This has been taken up with Norman Lamb, our MP, who supports our concerns and has written to the highways department on our behalf.

A sign at the Parish Staithe has been vandalised and a sign from the Recreation Ground has gone missing. If you have any information regarding these two incidents, it would be greatly appreciated if you could please ring me on 598410 or Shirley on 598882.

Please note the next high tide warning is for the 9th of October if you wish to register for advance warning of flooding in our area by telephone/mobile or fax, ring the floodline on 0845 9881188
or visit the website: www.environment-agency.gov.uk/ floodline for further information.
They will also advise you on practical measures to reduce the damage floodwater can cause to your property.

The next visit of the Mobile Police Van is at the Methodist Car-Park on Friday, 20th October from 10.15am- 12.30pm. Please avail yourself of this service.

The next Parish Council meeting is on Monday, 9th October, in the Community Hall at 7.15pm
All are invited to attend.
