PARISH COUNCIL CHAIRMAN'S REPORT - December 2007

In response to the potential flooding risk that the area faced on 9th November, it reminded us that Hickling does not have a disaster plan committee in place, an item very strongly supported in the village plan questionnaire.
This would be a contingency plan to notify/help/aid everyone in the village if flooding did occur. Would anyone like to take on this task of setting out the plan or just be involved in some way? If so, please contact me on 598410 or Shirley on 598882.

The Parish Council, in this financial year, have donated £300 towards the cost of grass-cutting at St Mary's Churchyard, and £125 towards the production of this News Sheet. Our thanks go to all the people responsible for the production and delivery of the News Sheet.

Once again the dark nights are upon us, so please ensure that you can be seen when out walking or cycling in the dark by wearing something bright like reflective clothing or bands.
It is very dangerous for the pedestrian/cyclist and for the motorist if you can't be seen.

It has been brought to the Parish Council's attention that a lot of outside security lights are lighting up more than the immediate area of the property concerned. Can we all ensure that these lights are not lighting up the whole street and contributing to the light pollution that exists in more urban areas - it will help keep our lovely dark skies in Hickling.

Hickling road-sweeping takes place every two months and the following are visited: Barnfield Close, Broadlands Road, Heath Road, High Mill, Mallard Way, Mill Close, Staithe Road, Stubb Road (to the Causeway), The Green and The Walk.

The St John's Ambulance course has not been forgotten, nor the volunteer speed camera project, but we do not have enough people for either yet. The Clerk is going to contact other villages to see if we can amalgamate with them.

The next Parish Council meeting will be held at 7.15pm in the Community Hall on Monday, 3rd December - and then again on the 8th of January. All are welcome.

The Parish Council would like to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas.
